It has been pretty remarkable to see how liberals in Hollywood and Washington have been outed as sexual abusers following Ronan Farrow’s bombshell report about Harvey Weinstein. Turns out these liberals aren’t the beacons of morality they constantly say they are.
Earlier, we learned that Dem. Rep. John Conyers settled a sexual harassment lawsuit with taxpayer money and had successfully brushed it under the rug.
From Fox News:
Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) settled a complaint in 2015 from a woman who alleged she was fired from his staff because she rejected his sexual advances, according to a new report from BuzzFeed.
Conyers‘ office reportedly paid the woman more than $27,000 to settle the complaint under a confidentiality agreement.
Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, “repeatedly made sexual advances to female staff that included requests for sexual favors, contacting and transporting other women with whom they believed Conyers was having affairs, caressing their hands sexually, and rubbing their legs and backs in public,” BuzzFeed reported, citing signed affidavits.
“I was basically blackballed. There was nowhere I could go,” the alleged victim told BuzzFeed in a phone interview.
Conyers has since admitted the report is true after initially saying he didn’t remember that ever happening.
Then things got worse. Another accuser just came forward.
From Washington Examiner:
A former staffer said she was harassed daily by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., in a lawsuit she withdrew after a court denied her request to keep the complaint sealed, according to a report Tuesday — the second report in as many days which contains allegations of sexual harassment against the lawmaker.
The ex-scheduler claimed Conyers touched her “repeatedly and daily” from May to July, 2016, causing her to suffer “insomnia, anxiety, depression and chest pains,” per public documents obtained by BuzzFeed News that were filed at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in February.
The touching included “rubbing on her shoulders, kissing her forehead, covering and attempting to hold her hand,” as well as some instances in which the top Democrat urged her to come to his home, the woman alleged.
If we are applying the same treatment to Conyers as we do Republicans like Roy Moore then Conyers needs to resign immediately. Obviously, liberals haven’t even remotely held Conyers to the same standard.
Conyers isn’t just some guy. He’s the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives.
Pelosi called for an ethics investigation but that doesn’t really mean anything. Ethics investigations rarely accomplish very much.
Obviously, Conyers should resign. Are Democrats really OK with continuing to let this guy, who is clearly not treating women with respect, run around through the halls of Congress?
So much for that whole defending women thing.
The reality here is that if a Republican House member was in this position the media and Democrat Party would be screaming from the rooftops about how a resignation is mandatory. But, when it’s one of their own being attacked, the left seems very comfortable just brushing it under the rug.
A whole lot of hypocrisy flowing around D.C. these days.
